Leeds United and Manchester United have both dispatched scouts to see goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt.
Scouts from Leeds United and Manchester United were present on Sunday (30 April) to witness Odds BK goalie Leopold Wahlstedt, according to Scouts in Attendance.
Leeds United presently have Illan Meslier and Joel Robles as first-team goalkeeper options, although the Frenchman has come under increased scrutiny after allowing 23 goals in April.
Scouts in Attendance reported on Twitter on Sunday (30 April) that the Whites had scouted Wahlstedt, 23, while he was playing for Norwegian side Odds BK against Rosenborg.
“Manchester United scouted Odds BK goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt on Sunday, with a Leeds United scout also expected,” they stated.
Change is required.
Leeds United are in shambles right now, and this is most visible in goal following Meslier’s terrible play.
There’s no denying that the young Frenchman has been a brilliant performer for the club at times over the last two seasons, but his confidence has taken a hit after allowing goal after goal in the Premier League.
However, if the Whites make a change, Robles would be the man in charge, which will not instill confidence in fans.
A goalie swoop this summer makes a lot of sense, and Wahlstedt has emerged as a plausible option.
The Swedish international is a popular asset right now, with Manchester United also in attendance and Liverpool previously connected with his services (Caught Offside, 6 April).
Leeds’ Premier League status would almost definitely have to be guaranteed in order to compete for Wahlstedt’s signing, but it is still a ray of hope that the club is working behind the scenes to bring about some improvement at the back.
