According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United are about to miss out on Manchester City midfielder Shea Charles, who is close to joining Southampton.
The Saints are likely to sign the young Northern Ireland international in a £11 million move, according to Simon Jones of the Mail Online.
Leeds, like Southampton, were relegated from the Premier League last season and have been linked with Charles, as have Borussia Dortmund, Schalke, and Leicester City.
Saints’ director of football operations Jason Wilcox, a former Leeds player, has utilized his relationships at City to get ahead of his rivals.
As a result, Charles is projected to follow in the footsteps of Romeo Lavia, whom the Saints are expected to lose along with James Ward-Prowse this transfer window.
Shea Charles is a player with a great future, and Southampton will get a lot of selling value out of him for £11 million.
It’s a shame that Leeds haven’t been able to compete for his signature yet, with Daniel Farke only being hired as the Whites’ new manager.
The team has also failed to get approval for the full sale of the club to 49ers Enterprises, despite the fact that the agreement now appears to be a formality.
Leeds will have plenty of other targets to focus on in the remaining transfer window as Farke seeks to arrange a return to the Premier League next season.
However, in Charles, they may be looking at a player who sneaked through the net and will get a close look against the Saints in the Championship next season.
