Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
According to SLP sports editor Richard Cawley, the Millwall loanee had eye socket surgery and will not be able to play again this season.
The 20-year-old departed Elland Road on loan in July to gain regular Championship playing time, but his season has now been cut short.
“Charlie Cresswell has had eye surgery,” Cawley posted on Twitter. The Millwall loanee will be out for the remainder of the season.”
Best wishes to him
It’s never easy to undergo surgery and we’re hoping he recovers well and comes back stronger next season.
The images of the injury looked pretty horrific and it’s a good thing that it did not affect his eyesight or cause any long-term damage to his eyes.
Cresswell did his bit on loan and became a regular feature in the Lions’ first team and that was precisely the point of sending him out on loan.
Because Liam Cooper is expected to leave the club, he may have done enough to be considered for the first team next season.
Cresswell will very probably require assurances about playing time if he is to commit his future to the club, and that decision will be made by the manager during preseason.
Right now, he won’t be thinking about next season and will instead focus on his recuperation, and his counsel will almost certainly be to take it easy.
