It was a debut to remember for Manor Solomon on Saturday afternoon as he starred on the left flank for Leeds United, laying on an assist and fans voted the winger man of the match.
It came in the same week as actually signing for Leeds, agreeing to a season-long loan move from Archie Gray’s Tottenham. Indeed, Solomon actually spoke to Gray about a move to Elland Road this summer.
Leeds fans are already excited at the prospect of a season with Solomon on the left flank. Especially, as Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hull City was remarkably his first professional outing since September 2023.
Solomon lasted 74 minutes on Saturday before being replaced by Joel Piroe, who scored Leeds’ second. It comes after the Israel star went past two Hull players and laid on a beautiful cross for Mateo Joseph.
Solomon’s assist was the first debut assist since Bielsa’s first game
An assist on his debut, and the first time in more than six years that a Leeds player has produced as much on their debut for the Yorkshire club. The last time it happened was in Marcelo Bielsa’s first Leeds match.
A 3-1 win against Stoke City that saw Mateusz Klich, Pablo Hernandez and Liam Cooper score against a side relegated from the Premier League that summer. The first real indication Bielsa would shine at Leeds.
The third goal saw captain Cooper head home from a Barry Douglas corner, the latter making his debut for Leeds after joining from Wolves. Opta’s Jonny Cooper said Solomon finally broke Douglas’ record.
He said on X: “Manor Solomon is the first Leeds player to assist on debut for the club since Barry Douglas assisted Liam Cooper’s goal in Marcelo Bielsa’s first game in charge against Stoke in August 2018.”

Solomon now set for tough international break with Israel
One of many players leaving Leeds on international duty, Solomon has two tough fixtures ahead of him before returning to play for Leeds against Burnley on September 14 in a crucial Championship showdown.
The UEFA Nations League begins this break and Solomon’s Israel are playing in the top tier of the groups. They firstly face Belgium on Friday, before taking on Italy on Monday with Israel massive underdogs.
However, if Solomon is in the kind of form he was in on Saturday, he could easily pose a danger over the next few days. Leeds will hope he doesn’t play two sets of 90 minutes in order to keep him injury free.
