Official: Leeds United desires Edmund Baidoo transfer as new attacker on way to Elland Road

Leeds United and Brighton are locked in a transfer battle to sign Ghanaian forward Edmund Baidoo from Sogndal Fotball, according to Sports World Ghana.

The Ghanian outlet reported that the 18-year-old attacker, who already has nine goals and seven assists in the Norwegian second tier so far this season, is also being tracked by Celtic and Club Brugge.

Brighton are said to lead Leeds in the race to sign Baidoo this summer, with both clubs having made contact with Sogndal over a transfer for the playmaker who is under contract until 2027.

Leeds United and Brighton locked in transfer battles

The Whites’ pursuit of Baidoo this summer appears to be in anticipation of the need to add numbers and quality to the ranks out wide, and Brighton look set to play a key role in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

Beating a Premier League side with Brighton’s track record of youth development would be a significant coup for Daniel Farke’s side, with Baidoo already having shown his quality in a European second tier.

However, that Brighton track record is one of the things that could attract Crysencio Summerville to the Amex Stadium this summer, with the Seagulls one of several Premier League clubs keen on the Dutchman [Alex Crook, 17 June].

With clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea said to be interested, Summerville could see Brighton as the destination in which he’ll gain the most development and game-time as a regular Premier League starter [Ben Jacobs, 24 June].

The Championship Player of the Year seems all but certain to play no part in another second-tier campaign, with Baidoo potentially a ready-made replacement if Summerville does choose to move on.
