With 11 days left to go in the transfer window, Leeds United are in the market for a handful of new signings but will be well aware that as time goes on, the harder it is to do a deal.
Losing Georginio Rutter has compounded a bad start to the new campaign, picking up just two points from a possible six in the opening two matches. Though, it was improved on Saturday away at West Brom.
Having conceded six goals in the opening two games – three to Portsmouth, three to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup – a clean sheet was a welcome sight for Daniel Farke, Illan Meslier and Leeds supporters.
But without Rutter and Crysencio Summerville, there was a notable lack of creativity. That is something Leeds must replace in the next week and a half if Farke is to stand any chance of getting Leeds promoted.
Dallas thinks Leeds are waiting for crucial Premier League date
The Premier League got underway this weekend and clubs will have had to announce their 25-man squad. An update is allowed to be made before the midway point in September, but it indicates who is in or out.
It means that some players will have learned whether they are to be involved this season or not. Dallas thinks Leeds have been waiting for that moment before targeting players that are out of favour right now.
He told Sky Sports (17/08, 2.56PM): “In my opinion, the club will bring players in. Probably waiting for the Premier League clubs to announce 25-man squads before looking who’s not been picked, I don’t know.”
What do Leeds need to buy in the next 11 days in promotion race
Junior Firpo has done well in the opening couple of games, albeit better than some of his teammates. But he is the only recognised left-footed left-back the club has and some competition or cover is required.
A replacement for Glen Kamara is important, adding a player that can score from deep. But importantly, the two areas that require some work from Leeds are replacing Rutter and Summerville in the next week.
Plenty have been linked with Leeds and the most-recent suggestion is an exciting one, with reports saying Sunderland’s Jack Clarke could head back to Leeds – and he would be a brilliant start to the last few days.
