Wilfried Gnonto, a Leeds United winger, is skeptical of a summer move to Everton.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Gnonto’s interest in joining the Toffees seems unlikely considering the possibility of them getting relegated again.
According to the article, it is also unclear how much Everton will have to spend this summer due to continued board turmoil, which may easily price them out of a move anyhow.
Leeds are claimed to be ‘anticipating approaches’ for Gnonto this summer, but with four years remaining on his contract and no relegation release clause, they are in a great position to keep him or sell him for a large money.
In any case, the San Francisco 49ers Enterprises remain optimistic about keeping Gnonto at Elland Road, where he is scheduled to report back for pre-season on Monday after being allowed an extra week off.
Gnonto is skeptical of his move to Everton.
According to the Italian press, Everton had a proposal of roughly £18.8 million accepted by Leeds for Gnonto, with a deal nearing completion.
Those reports were shortly disputed by iNews reporter Mark Douglas, who reiterated the YEP’s assertions by claiming that Everton may not be able to reach Leeds’ valuation.
That kind of price tag has always seemed a little low, especially given the hype coming out of Leeds about their want to keep him.
If Leeds were to keep Gnonto beyond this summer, he would surely be a tremendous asset in the Championship.
He’s already proven his worth against second-tier defenses, scoring two stunning goals in a 5-2 win against Cardiff City in the FA Cup in January.
