Romano says £30m star man Leeds almost signed last summer set to join Atalanta this summer

Fabrizio Romano has turned to Twitter to notify football fans that AC Milan star Charles De Ketelaere is likely to join Atalanta on loan, following strong links with Leeds United last summer. He could collaborate with Willy Gnonto.

De Ketelaere, 22, of Belgium, joined Milan a year ago. Leeds and Milan battled it out, but the Italians came out on top after investing £30 million. Andrea Radrizzani told The Athletic that he regretted not reaching an agreement.

But he failed in his first year in Milan. He didn’t score a single goal and only had one assist in 40 games. De Ketelaere is likely to replace Rasmus Hojlund, who was sold to Manchester United for £72 million by Atalanta.

According to Romano, Milan and Atalanta have reached a deal, and while De Ketelaere has yet to agree, a move to the Serie A side that is currently in the Europa League will undoubtedly entice him. He is still available a year after Leeds tried to sign him.

It’s a superb move by the Belgian superstar. Given his poor form for Milan in 22-23, he may have had to return to Belgium – or try something different. However, joining Atalanta, who finished sixth in Serie A last season, is an excellent decision.

Willy Gnonto may accompany him. According to TeamTalk, Gnonto has informed his agents that he does not want to join Everton. However, a return to Italy seems in the cards, with both Juventus and Atalanta interested in signing Gnonto.
