Southampton try £30m player-plus-cash deal to beat Leeds United to Joe Rodon transfer at Tottenham

Leeds United look as though they could miss out on re-signing Joe Rodon from Tottenham with Southampton trying to thrash out a player-plus-cash deal, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon page on Sunday (23 June), the Sun journalist reported that the Saints are in pole position to sign Rodon, 26, by offering up Carlos Alcaraz.

It is understood that Rodon is rated around £10million and Alcarez’s price tag is at £30million, meaning Spurs would have to stump up a “large chunk” of cash, plus Rodon, to secure the former Juventus loanee’s signature.

Rodon spent last season on loan at Leeds, who are keen to re-sign the Wales international [football.london].

Will Leeds United sign Joe Rodon again?

Leeds fans will be dying for Daniel Farke to bring Rodon back to Elland Road for the upcoming 2024/25 Championship season.

But if you were Rodon, would you come back?

Rodon was superb last season as he made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire giants.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to help the club return to the Premier League and was part of the side that lost to Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May.

Rodon has mastered the Championship, clearly, but that move to Tottenham was too big a step for him.

Leeds United fans

Leeds United fans were left heartbroken at Wembley.

He’s obviously good enough for the Premier League and if you were him, you’d be looking to join a team like the Saints because you’d get regular game-time and would be able to show that you’re a very good player.

Leeds fans have to admit that returning to Elland Road would be a sideways step – maybe even a backwards step – for his career.

And while a move to Southampton could always be seen as a move down from Tottenham, he’d at least be playing regularly in the biggest and best football league in the world instead of being a benchwarmer in North London.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this £12million-rated title-winning striker in a “bargain” deal.
