Former Leeds United stalwart Stuart Dallas has sent Willy Gnonto a message following his contract news.
Over the course of the summer transfer window, the Italy international had been heavily linked with an Elland Road exit following Leeds’ failure to gain promotion.
However, these rumours were squashed after the forward stayed at the club and even extended his stay until 2028 [Graham Smyth, 31 August].
Commenting on Gnonto’s Instagram post (31 August) after their 2-0 win against Hull City, Dallas wrote the following: “Your time is now. Congratulations my pal.”
Willy Gnonto could hold the key for Leeds United Premier League promotion
Leeds’ team has changed quite significantly since they lost in the playoff final against fellow relegated side, Southampton.
Players such as Crysencio Summerville and even Georginio Rutter have both departed Elland Road for pastures news.
Although those who have exited have been suitably replaced by the likes of Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon, it has likely filled fans with hope that Gnonto has chosen to stay at the club.
The start of last season was something of a ‘topsy-turvy’ time for the attacker with the Italian even refusing to play for the club to try and force his way out.
This season, however, things seem a little bit different. The Whites are among the favourites to gain automatic Premier League promotion and, if they keep going as they are, promotion could become a real possibility sooner rather than later.
Especially if Gnonto manages to find the form that he finished the 2023/24 season off with at some point in the near future.
