Stuart Dallas sends new message to Leeds man after what he did on int’l duty

Stuart Dallas has sent former Leeds United teammate Karl Darlow a new message after what he did on international duty.

The rarely-seen Whites stopper made his Wales debut on Monday (9 September) impressing between the posts as Craig Bellamy’s side ran out 2-1 winners over Montenegro in the Nations League.

Darlow’s call-up to the Wales squad is understood to come as a surprise to his teammates at Elland Road [The Athletic, 9 September], but Dallas was quick to react when the 33-year-old took to social media having received his first cap.

Commenting on Darlow’s Instagram post on Tuesday (10 September) Dallas said: “Congratulations my pal.”

Leeds United fans may not have seen too much of Darlow in action in their colours, but it is clear that the 33-year-old is a respected member of Daniel Farke’s squad and a popular player in the changing room.

Dallas wasn’t the only player to react to the keeper’s performance with Wilfried Gnonto also quick to comment on the stopper’s post alongside several other teammates from the Welshman’s previous clubs.

Although Illan Meslier is clearly the first-choice keeper in Farke’s side and that is unlikely to change between now and the end of the season, Darlow’s performance on Monday showed that he is ready to step in if and when he is needed.

Most of the time, clubs will be watching on in fear that their players could pick up injuries during the international break, but Leeds will likely be keen for their backup keeper to play regularly for Wales so that he can keep his match sharpness.

Hopefully, Monday evening was the first of many outings for Darlow on the international stage as he could become a regular starter under Bellamy.
