Leeds United, who have been relegated to the Championship, appear to be in the final stages of acquiring the services of Rangers midfield dynamo Glen Kamara. Kamara’s eye-catching ball retention talents have unsurprisingly piqued the interest of a slew of Championship clubs, up to 10 according to Football Insider.
With 193 appearances, nine goals, and 11 assists for the Gers since joining from Dundee in 2019, Kamara’s effect at Ibrox is evident. But, according to Football Insider, he is reportedly set to join Leeds United after a £5 million agreement.
A New Era for Rangers
Intriguingly, Kamara’s standing at Rangers has experienced a dip recently. Despite signing a contract that runs until 2025, the Finnish powerhouse has been somewhat marginalised by Michael Beale. Last season, he made only 22 appearances in the Premiership, half of them as part of the starting lineup.
A new-look midfield seems to be part of Beale’s master plan. The Rangers boss has already welcomed Todd Cantwell, Nicolas Raskin, and Kieran Dowell. Talks are also in advanced stages with LAFC’s Jose Cifuentes.
Leeds, for their part, are in severe need of reinforcements following their relegation from the Premier League. The Whites have had a particularly difficult summer transfer window, with a slew of departures leaving the squad significantly weak.
Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts have left the club, joining Al-Rayyan and Birmingham, respectively. Other departures include Robin Koch to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan, Rasmus Kristensen, Brody Aaronson, and Marc Roca on loan, and Joel Robles on a free transfer to Al-Qadsiah. The icing on the cake has been Adam Forshaw’s departure, who is currently unattached after his contract expired.
The arrival of Kamara, then, might provide the spark Leeds United requires to return to the top flight as soon as possible.
