The latest Leicester City news as latest reports suggest that the club are closing in on appointing the former Chelsea and Brighton boss as Enzo Maresca’s replacement.
Leicester City are closing in on a deal to appoint former Chelsea manager Graham Potter as new manager, with latest reports saying that a deal is ‘close’.
City have been on the search for somebody to take the reins since the departure of Enzo Maresca for Chelsea a few weeks ago. The Italian led the club to promotion to the Premier League in his only season in charge, with his style of football catching the eye of Chelsea.
Potter has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge in April last year, the same day that City parted ways with Brendan Rodgers. City have been long-term admirers of Potter, but he is said to have turned down the chance to take over at the end of the 2022/23 season.
It now seems that City have got their man. The manager emerged as a leading candidate to take over from Maresca last week, alongside West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Carberan and former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.
The Sun now report that City are ‘close’ to appointing Potter as their new manager after ‘positive talks’ between the two parties over the last few days. If a deal is completed then he will be in charge for the season opener against Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium on Monday, August 19.
The potential appointment will also add more interest to the first meeting of the season between City and Chelsea. The clash at the King Power Stadium in November will be Maresca’s first return since leaving, while it will also be Potter’s first meeting with his former club since leaving 18 months ago.
