Another star shown exit door as player express disappointment with Leicester City by lack of support from club

Shane Flynn has announced he is leaving the King Power Stadium after seven years, four times coming close to a senior appearance for the club under Brendan Rodgers

Departing Leicester City youngster Shane Flynn has expressed his disappointment over a lack of support from the club during time out with injury.

Flynn, the development squad player of the season in 2021, has announced his exit from the King Power Stadium seven years after arriving from Ireland. However, he did not play in the final year-and-a-half of his spell having been sidelined with injury.

A regular in City’s Premier League 2 squad, left-back Flynn was called up to Brendan Rodgers’ senior side for three Europa League matches and a Premier League victory over Brighton in 2021, albeit he didn’t make it off the bench. Flynn continued to represent City’s development squad but made his final appearance in January 2023.

“After seven years at Leicester City, my time at the club has come to an end,” Flynn wrote on social media. “I’ve had some great highs and made memories that will last me a lifetime, but unfortunately had too many lows along the way. I joined at 15 and leave at 22 with many life lessons learned and experiences that have shaped me into who I am today.

“In truth, I’m disappointed with the treatment and lack of support from the club that I received during the final year-and-a-half in what was an incredibly tough time with injury, but I’m looking forward to the future and getting back to enjoying my football again. Thank you to everyone who did support me through the tough times. Your support will be forever appreciated! Onwards and upwards!”

Flynn looked to be destined for the first team when he picked up the development squad player of the season award in 2021. The previous five winners – Luke Thomas, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Hamza Choudhury, Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell – had all gone on to become regulars in the first-team squad.

First signing for City as a 15-year-old in 2017, Flynn stayed with Irish club Bray Wanderers for a year and made two senior appearances before hopping over to England and joining City’s Under-18s. For City’s Under-21s, Flynn made 48 Premier League 2 appearances.
