Arsenal officially submit bid to sign Leicester City defender this summer

The latest Leicester City news is that uncertainty about the club’s Premier League future for next season has led to players being linked with summer moves abroad.

Uncertainty about Leicester City’s Premier League position this season has already fueled conjecture about the future of some of the club’s players, with Timothy Castagne the most recent to be linked with a move elsewhere.

Arsenal are rumored to be interested in the full-back, with Mikel Arteta’s side having made checks’ on him this season, according to the Mirror. The Gunners are apparently looking for a back-up full-back, with Castagne mentioned as a “potential option.”

City are presently 18th in the Premier League rankings, two points shy of safety with three games remaining. A win over Liverpool on Monday, though, might add another twist to the race for safety at the end of the season.

If City fails to close the gap, there will be interest in players such as Castagne. The 27-year-old has been with the club since the summer of 2020, when he joined from Atalanta.

Since making the switch, he has been a fixture in the starting lineup, his versatility as a left or right-back being an asset to City considering the full-back problems they’ve had over the last two seasons.

Both James Justin and Ricardo Pereira had been ruled out for the foreseeable future due to long-term injuries, but both have returned to training. Ricardo returned to the matchday squad against Fulham, but Justin’s exclusion from the Premier League team at the end of January means he won’t be able to play until the conclusion of the season.

Arsenal are thought to be looking for big-name acquisitions in the summer window, and have been connected with a move for Youri Tielemans, who is anticipated to be available on a free transfer when his contract with City expires.

Due to injuries to Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares, the Emirates Stadium may look to acquire another full-back to their team ahead of next season. Castagne will have two years left on his contract when the market opens, allowing City to demand a fair fee if the Gunners come calling.
