BREAKING NEWS: €17m transfer to Leicester City now happening as Details of deal shared, with only €8m going to club

Leicester City ‘will have to’ activate the purchase clause in Issahaku Fatawu’s loan deal from Sporting Club de Portugal now that they have been promoted back to the Premier League.

That’s according to O Jogo, who say promotion back to the top flight means that Fatawu’s deal has to be made permanent.

The Ghana international was loaned out to the Foxes last summer and that included a mandatory clause of €17m in the event of promotion at the first time of asking.

Leicester City transfer chief praised for uncovering gem, but future deal 'complicated' - Leicestershire Live

That was secured thanks to Leeds’ result on Friday evening and so Leicester now need to pay up to Sporting.

The bad news for the Portuguese side is that not all of the money will be going their way, and they’ll only actually receive around €8m.

That’s because they owe 50% of their own future profits on the player to his former club Steadfast, so it will be a case of them receiving Leicester’s money and quickly passing most of it on.

Still, they can classify this loan deal as a success, with Fatawu having played a key role for Leicester and helped them back to the Premier League, securing a permanent move for himself and a nice profit for Sporting too.
