Steve Cooper’s reunion with his old club will be live on Sky Sports, with the two clubs meeting for the first time in nearly two years when they face off at the King Power Stadium
Leicester City’s East Midlands derby with Nottingham Forest has been rescheduled after it was selected for live TV coverage.
City will now host Forest on Friday, October 25, at 8pm after it was chosen by Sky Sports to be broadcast live. The match is bound to drum up plenty of excitement, not only with the two local rivals looking for bragging rights, but with City boss Steve Cooper taking on his former club for the first time.
It’s the only City fixture in October that has been moved. Their games at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, October 5, and at Southampton on Saturday, October 19, remain 3pm kick-offs.
The game in October will be the first meeting between City and Forest since January 2023, when Brennan Johnson scored twice in a 2-0 win for Cooper’s then side. The last meeting at the King Power Stadium was in October 2022, City emphatically claiming their first win of the season, with James Maddison netting twice, and Harvey Barnes and Patson Daka once, in a 4-0 thrashing.
October’s match could be a crucial one in the battle to stay in the Premier League. Both clubs are predicted to be fighting at the bottom, with City favourites for relegation, and Forest fourth favourites, only ahead of the promoted sides.
This is only the second City match to be rescheduled on their Premier League return. They play their opener on Sky on Monday, August 19 (8pm kick-off) against Tottenham, but otherwise, all of their fixtures in August and September are 3pm kick-offs on Saturday.
