Leicester City supporters react to the bombshell news of Chelsea’s alleged interest in manager Enzo Maresca
Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is reportedly on the list of managers under consideration to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
The timing of Tuesday’s decision to part ways with the Argentinian was a surprise given Chelsea’s encouraging end to the Premier League season. His young side did finish outside of the top four, but Pochettino had seemed to have finally got his squad of individuals playing as a team after a disappointing start to the campaign.
But Chelsea have a reputation for changing managers, and they are now on the hunt for a sixth man to lead their team in little over two years. One of the names immediately linked with the Stamford Bridge job is the Foxes title-winning boss, who won promotion to the Premier League in his first season at the King Power Stadium.
Not only is the speculation disruptive as Leicester plan for their return to the big time, it also poses a serious question over what City would do if genuinely approached for the services of the Italian.
On the one hand, some supporters might think Maresca is too valuable to the club to even consider letting him go, but he was on the wrong end of plenty of criticism from the stands during the Foxes march towards promotion. Here is a selection of the reaction to Chelsea’s reported interest in Pep Guardiola’s former number two at Manchester City on social media…
@lcfc4life093 via X: “Surely Enzo declines the offer.”
@BhavsarRene via X: “£1 billion for Enzo pls @LCFC keep him I beg u.”
@LC60_98 via X: “There’s no way people actually think Chelsea want Enzo Maresca.”
@Paul_the_Fox via X: “They’ll get [Graham] Potter back before they consider Maresca.”
Bryan Malpas via Facebook: “He’s not even proven as a Prem manager yet. I’m pretty sure he is well down any list Chelsea have. Just more nothing news.”
Neal Dunn via Facebook: “Enzo would be a fool to go to Chelsea. This club are known for managerial sackings and he’d be lucky to last a year. He’d ruin what already appears to be a great career with prospects of even greater things!”
@JOE_BA via X: “I highly doubt it. No PL experience. But I would be all for it for a fee.”
