BREAKING NEWS: Graham Potter aiming high as Leicester City reality made clear

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as reports claim former Brighton and Chelsea boss keen on Man Utd and England jobs

Leicester City’s hopes of landing Graham Potter as a replacement for the Chelsea-bound Enzo Maresca look doomed to fail as his true ambitions are revealed.

Potter, the former Brighton and Chelsea boss, is a 5/1 shot to replace Maresca at the King Power Stadium with bookies – and he remains a huge favourite with Foxes fans and the club hierarchy.

However, the Sun reports that he is biding his time in the hope of replacing Gareth Southgate as the England manager, probably some time after the Euro24 tournament is played in Germany later this month. And if that job doesn’t come off, apparently he is open to replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Potter left Chelsea in April 2023 after seven months in charge. He had started the campaign at Brighton but then moved to Stamford Bridge to replace Thomas Tuchel. However, he endured a difficult time with the Blues, winning just 12 of his 31 matches at the helm before the axe fell.

Nevertheless, Potter’s currency remains high and he has been linked with several managerial roles since he left Stamford Bridge 14 months ago, and now the 49-year-old is wanted by both his old club Brighton and Leicester.

He has long been a favourite behind-the-scenes at City , going back to when the club thought they were at risk of losing Brendan Rodgers. He rejected a Leicester approach immediately after being sacked by Chelsea, but after a year out of the game he may fancy returning.

The style of play he brought to Brighton enhanced his reputation, and would fit nicely with how City have been playing under Maresca, so there would not be too many teething problems if Potter was to arrive.

He is also an overwhelming favourite of Foxes fans who voted in a LeicestershireLive poll on Maresca’s replacement.

The Sun reports: “The Foxes would like to speak to Potter as they pick a boss to replace Chelsea-bound Enzo Maresca, with Steve Cooper and Carlos Corberan aamong the options.

“He was also a possible option for the gaffer’s role at Manchester United, where the new regime are fans and previously tried to take him to French side Nice.

“Close pals say Potter would take the Old Trafford post if asked – but his sights are more on England.”
