Steve Cooper is looking to make his first signing as Leicester City manager and is being linked with a 24-year-old South American winger
Steve Cooper is apparently in talks to make Paraguay winger Ramon Sosa his first signing as Leicester City manager.
Sosa, aged 24, is valued at about £15 million as he plays for Paraguay at the Copa America this summer in the United States, competing with Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron and Brighton’s Julio Encisco for a starting shirt as they have trailed Colombia and Brazil in tough Group D.
Talleres, his club in Argentina, are said to be willing to cash in this summer and The Sun claims that Leicester have held talks with his agents to discuss a deal worth about £15 million. He has already been linked with Newcastle United and Wolves while reports from South America suggest interest from Everton and Chelsea too. Chelsea had scouts at Paraguay’s last match.
Sosa was dubbed “one of the best wingers in Argentine football” by his coach and, after scoring 17 times and chipping in with 11 assists in 54 appearances for the club, there has been an admission that it will be difficult to keep him for much longer.
He said himself recently: “There is a lot of talk about the Premier League and it is nice because it is a dream I have. I hope it comes true.”
Talleres manager Walter Ribonetto expects to see the forward head to Europe in this window.
He said earlier this month: “Obviously, and if given the choice, I would prefer to keep him, but I think it’s difficult because of the situation that clubs often need to sell.”
