Carlton Palmer predicts that Leicester City will win the opening game against Coventry City

Leicester City kick up their Championship campaign this weekend.

The Foxes spent eight years in the Premier League before being relegated to the second level in May.

During their stay in the Premier League, they won the league title in 2016 and qualified for Europe on several occasions.

But it only took one dismal year to relegate them to the Championship, where they will now seek promotion right back to the top division.

Enzo Maresca has been tasked with competing for an automatic promotion spot right away.

The team’s first game, though, is against last season’s play-off finals.

Both teams will be looking to get off to a solid start in the new season when they meet at the King Power Stadium on Sunday at 12pm.

What can we expect from Leicester City’s match against Coventry City?

Carlton Palmer believes Leicester will secure an automatic promotion spot after an impressive summer season.

The former player believes Maresca’s team will win against the Sky Blues, but only by a limited margin.

“For me, Leicester City and Leeds United are the favorites to gain automatic promotion,” Palmer told Football League World.

“They have made some very good signings at this level in Conor Coady and Harry Winks, and they have still kept Jamie Vardy.”

“If Jamie Vardy is fit, he has the potential to score a hat trick at this level.”

“Coventry have lost their 20-goal-per-season man [Viktor] Gyokeres, but have signed Everton’s exciting Ellis Simms.”

“I believe Coventry will struggle to replicate last season’s success, but I expect them to compete for a play-off spot.”

“In a tight game, Leicester’s new look wins 1-0.”

This weekend has a complete slate of Championship games, with league play returning to the second tier after a three-month layoff.

Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton were promoted from the Premier League, while Ipswich Town, Plymouth Argyle, and Sheffield Wednesday were promoted from League One.

A number of major clubs will be vying for promotion in what is expected to be a highly contested Championship season.

Despite the fact that it is only the first game, Coventry’s trip to Leicester could be crucial come the season’s final weekend in May.

Will Leicester City come out on top versus Coventry City?

Leicester will want to get off to a solid start this season, but Coventry on the first day is a difficult first game.

Coventry will be looking to put the disappointment of their Wembley defeat behind them by putting down a marker for the rest of the season.

There is no better way to accomplish this than by defeating a previous top-flight side that many believe will be promoted back to the Premier League.

Mark Robins’ team will be difficult to beat, thus this match will be a solid indicator of Leicester’s ability to compete for a top-two berth in the Championship.
