Leicester City will be seeking to bounce back from disappointment last weekend in their upcoming clash with Everton, though pundits are warning their winless opponents are more dangerous than presumed.
Steve Cooper looked to be on the verge of securing his first Premier League victory with his new side, though a two-goal lead was thrown away in last Saturday’s draw with Crystal Palace. The first of those goals for the hosts, both scored by Jean-Philippe Mateta, was contentiously judged onside at the time and since then the Foxes’ manager has slammed the fact it was given.
So it is back to square one again this weekend and the opportunity to get another three points on the board comes around again, this time against Everton, who are yet to even register a point this campaign. On paper this would make the task seem an easier one, however both Chris Sutton and Paul Merson both believe the Toffees’ fight or flight response this weekend could be a danger to Leicester.
For BBC Sport, the former wrote: “This is a huge game for both teams and it is probably safe to say that neither of them will want to go 2-0 up after what happened when they both did it last week. The Foxes’ collapse was not quite as extreme as Everton’s against Bournemouth and Villa, but it was still pretty bad.
“So, who do I back here? Everton are still without a point and also went out of the Carabao Cup on penalties against Southampton in midweek, but I just have a feeling that this might be the day where their manager Sean Dyche catches a break. He needs one, that’s for sure.”
Heaping the pressure on Everton, he finished by stating: “Another defeat, especially against another side from down the bottom of the table, would not go down well,” before locking in a 2-1 win for the away side as his prediction.
Analysing the situation for Sportskeeda, Merson added: “The defeat against Villa won’t define Everton’s season, but if they end up losing against Leicester, like they did against Bournemouth, that’s a huge problem. A draw in football means nothing, Everton have to win this game. They have a few winnable fixtures coming up after this, so it’s crucial to set the right tone.
“No matter how much they struggle, they are always capable of pulling an incredible result out of nowhere. I just don’t think Leicester will be able to prevent Everton from securing a win here.”
Rounding off with a confident 2-1 prediction also in favour of Everton, he finished: “There’s no two ways about it in my opinion, only one winner in this clash.”
