CONFIRMED: Leicester leading Wolves in hot clash for Porto defender

Leicester City and Wolves are among clubs looking at David Carmo, FootballTransfers can confirm.

The Porto defender recently completed a successful loan spell at Olympiacos, garnering interest from several clubs. The Greek side hold an €18 million purchase option for Carmo, but it’s not clear whether they will activate it.

We are told that Leicester and Wolves are also vying for his signature and his current club Porto will ask for around €12m in exchange.

The Portuguese club did not initially include him in their long-term plans when they loaned him out but now the centre-back has attracted suitors following a great season for Olympiacos, who are also open to seeing him return.

The 24-year-old had been on Liverpool’s radar earlier in his career, but a broken ankle side-lined him for nearly a significant period hindering his progress.

David Carmo back on the agenda for Premier League clubs

Carmo left Porto for Olympiacos ahead of the last campaign and has drawn attention from clubs in the Premier League.

Two years ago, SC Braga president Antonio Salvador admitted that centre-back David Carmo was very close to signing for Liverpool in the January transfer window.

Speaking in an interview with Marca, he revealed: “We are always under pressure to sell but we have managed to keep our players as long as possible. In January, David Carmo had a foot and a half at Liverpool, but we ended up keeping him. He still has several suitors but we have managed to keep him for now.”

Carmo joined Porto from Braga, signing a five-year contract with the club in a €20m deal.

He is currently on international duty with Angola after making his debut in March 2024 with the nation.
