Daniel Farke criticises Leeds United player for ‘wrong decision’ in Burnley defeat

Daniel Farke has delivered his verdict on Leeds United’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Elland Road.

The Whites suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of their promotion rivals thanks to Luca Koleosho’s 18th minute strike.

Mateo Joseph and Wilfried Gnonto both had good chances to score either side of Koleosho’s winner but could not show the same sort of composure in front of goal.

Leeds also felt they should have had a penalty in the first half when Manor Solomon was brought down by Joe Worrall, though the referee instead felt he got the ball and gave the corner.

It was certainly a decision that could’ve gone Leeds’ way on another day considering it was from behind, though former Whites defender Aidy White believes the referee got it right.

Farke says Manor Solomon made ‘wrong decision’ for Leeds

It really was a game of very little in the way of chances at Elland Road, with the majority of them coming as a result of the other side’s mistakes.

In fact, it was a Leeds error that led to Burnley’s winning goal as Solomon lost possession inside the away side’s half with only Jayden Bogle back.

Ilia Gruev’s corner had just been cleared to Solomon, who had shaped to pass the ball back to Bogle, but instead looked to turn and keep Leeds on the attack before slipping.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke believes Solomon made the ‘wrong decision’ by not keeping it simple, but did credit Koleosho for his clinical finish.

He said: “Manor with the wrong decision. Did not need to take this risk. They have an 85-yard counter. Credit to them. Effective finish. Normally, we had better chances and easier chances to score, but did not take them.”

Solomon slip was bad luck for Leeds

A player as good as Solomon is always going to take chances in possession and unfortunately he got unlucky here.

Slipping on the ball is something you can never legislate for and on another day, he perhaps would’ve kept it simple and gone backwards.

Perhaps the main disappointment around the goal is Bogle‘s decision not to close Koleosho down earlier considering he ran over 50 yards before finishing past Illan Meslier.
