Darren Bent claims Leicester City summer signing was the ‘worst’ of the transfer window

Darren Bent has argued that Leicester City made the worst signing of the 2024 summer transfer window.

Leicester City were busy in the transfer window, signing nine players in total while also losing talisman Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea.

Steve Cooper needed to bolster his squad following an immediate return to the top flight after winning the Championship, strengthening in all areas of the pitch.

The Foxes have tried to give themselves the best chance of Premier League survival but according to TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent, one of their new faces is already destined to be a flop.

Darren Bent labels Leicester City midfielder Oliver Skipp as worst summer signing

One of the new faces brought to the King Power Stadium in the summer was Oliver Skipp.

Signed for a reported fee of £25m, Skipp left boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur to come to the East Midlands.

Skipp has made three appearances so far and has impressed Leicester fans with what they’ve seen so far as he partners fellow ex-Spurs star Harry Winks in the middle of the park.

But Bent believes that the deal to bring Skipp to Leicester doesn’t represent good business and couldn’t understand why they decided to sign the 23-year-old.

“Worst signing, Oliver Skipp and I feel so bad saying that,” the former Tottenham and England striker told TalkSPORT.

“Is that what Leicester needed? Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks. Harry was good last year in the Championship.

“I am not saying he is a bad player. Leicester fans can tell me, when they signed Oliver Skipp, did they automatically think ‘right, yes, he gives us the best chance of staying up?’ Does he?”

Leaving your boyhood club is a hard decision for anyone however Skipp admitted that he realised that he needed to move on from Spurs to further his career and get the game time he needed.

Speaking to Leicester’s official club website, he said: “I’ve got the feeling that it’s a good group of people and a good group of players. I’m sure that we’ve got a squad capable of challenging in every game.

“You look around the squad and there’s lots of exciting players who have played in the Premier League and I’m really excited to see what this group can achieve.

“As a player, when you feel that excitement, that’s something you can use to develop your game. I’m keen to push on and show what I can do.”
