Deal agreed as Leicester City welcome€7.5m new signing with medical set today

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Leicester City and Montpellier have reached a “total agreement” for the sale of Stephy Mavididi.

Leicester City have been hunting ex-Arsenal and Juventus midfielder Mavididi all month. And now, according to Aouna, an agreement has been reached in which the Foxes will pay Montpellier €7.5 million with a 10% sell-on clause.

Mavididi had made 98 appearances for Montpellier in three seasons, scoring 21 goals and assisting five more.

He appears to be Enzo Maresca’s sixth summer acquisition, following Harry Winks, Conor Coady, Mads Hermansen, and Callum Doyle.

After the exits of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, the Foxes were in need of attacking reinforcements, and Mavididi appears to be an exciting signing for Leicester, with the player sure to prove any prior critics wrong upon his return to England.

A strong capture

Maresca has made several excellent signings thus far, substantially boosting the midfield. However, the wide areas have always required some new faces, and Mavididi appears to be a great signing for them.

He’s at a good age and is returning to England after some really strong seasons in France, where he established himself as a confident goal-scoring winger.

Mavididi’s athleticism and goal-scoring ability will be very beneficial in the Championship, and with the departure of players like Barnes, he should step straight into the Foxes XI ahead of the new season next month.

More is needed for Leicester City, possibly most notably a new striker, but so far, so good this summer.
