DEAL DAY: as today £25.2m Leicester City target now on verge of transfer

Juventus winger Matias Soulé is reportedly closing in on a move to fellow Serie A side AS Roma, ending Aston Villa and Leicester City’s chances of a summer swoop.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of enquiries from both Premier League teams but, following a breakthrough in negotiations earlier this week, he’s set to join Roma.

Reputable transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano reports “today is the day for Soulé to Roma” as his medical is set to be completed and contracts will be signed. There won’t be time for an announcement until the weekend but the deal is now as good as finalised.

A total package of €30 million (£25.2 million) has been agreed, including a fixed fee of €26 million and €4 million in add-ons. A sell-on clause of 10 per cent has also been included to sweeten the deal for Juve.

The Argentina Under-23 international has been steadily earning game time at Juve over the past few seasons but his major breakthrough came last campaign, on loan at Frosinone. Although the Lazio-based club were relegated from Serie A, Soulé excelled as he scored 11 goals and notched three assists in 36 matches.

Villa and Leicester will have to look at alternative targets, though the former have been a step ahead in that regard. Unai Emery was keen on Soulé but he turned his attention elsewhere as soon as it became apparent the winger wouldn’t be moving to B6.
