Harry Souttar has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal after finding himself even further down the pecking order after the arrival of Caleb Okoli this summer
Leicester City have confirmed that centre-back Harry Souttar will spend the season on loan at Sheffield United.
The Australia international, out of favour last season under Enzo Maresca, has not found his way back into the frame under Steve Cooper, and so now departs to try to reignite his career. He joins the recently-relegated Blades as they bid to return to the Premier League.
Souttar made just four competitive appearances for City last season, and only one Championship start, having found himself behind Wout Faes, Jannik Vestergaard, Conor Coady, and Ben Nelson in the pecking order. With Caleb Okoli arriving this summer, Souttar has been pushed further to the fringes.
He was not in the squad for the pre-season defeat to Palermo and didn’t travel with the club to their training camp in Germany while he sorted out the details of his exit. The deal is now done, in time for Sheffield United’s Championship opener against Preston this Friday.
Souttar’s transfer to City really has not worked out. Signing for £15m from Stoke in January 2023, the 25-year-old has only made 16 competitive appearances for the club. When he returns from his loan spell next summer, he will still have three years remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium.
