The latest Leicester City transfer news as former manager Enzo Maresca reportedly has his sights on a reunion with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is being billed as a top summer transfer target for Enzo Maresca, just days after his Leicester City exit for Chelsea.
City’s summer plans were thrown into uncertainty when their Premier League rivals made intentions to pluck their Championship-winning manager clear. Several days passed, negotiations happened and Maresca was no longer the Leicester boss.
Attentions will turn towards installing a replacement as soon as possible and preparing for the new season, however Chelsea’s plans to the detriment of the Foxes’ own preparations for their top-flight return may not yet be complete, suggest The Sun.
They claim that Maresca has his eyes on a reunion with favourite midfielder Dewsbury-Hall – this summer or further down the line – providing the correct pieces fall into place.
Ultimately, this means if the West London club were to lose current option Conor Gallagher either to a £50m exit this summer or when his contract expires in one year’s time, then the Italian sees the Foxes’ No.22 as a direct replacement.
This rumour arrives on the back of bookmakers opening the market for the 25-year-old’s exit. Brighton and Manchester United lead the list of suitors, both rated 6/1, with Chelsea close behind at 8/1.
Dewsbury-Hall enjoyed the best period of his senior Leicester career under Maresca in the second tier, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists in 44 total Championship appearances. This earned him a spot in the division’s Team of the Season, as one of only two players at the club to gain that recognition.
His manager’s admiration was evidently high, given when exit talks formed during the January transfer window, Maresca’s own admission of his personal stance against what the club may have thought was strong.
“I don’t want Kiernan to go – ask the club if we need to sell or not,” the 44-year-old told the media. “The only way we can do something is to sell players. I don’t think that Kiernan’s future was about this game. Kiernan is a Leicester player, hopefully he can play in the next game.
“Here, he showed once again he is in love with the club, if something will happen now, I don’t know.”
According to The Sun, City will not be required to sell any players in the upcoming transfer window under the fear of sanction regarding Financial Fair Play (FFP) laws. This means they would be able to command as high a price as they deem necessary for Dewsbury-Hall, which they speculate to be in the region of £40m.
