Father advised son to join Leicester City after hot battles within top European clubs

Leeds United and Leicester City are both interested in AZ Alkmaar’s £17 million-rated left-back Milos Kerkez, whose father believes a transfer to the Premier League would be ‘good for him’.

Given AZ’s track record of selling and replacing star players, no one should bet against the Conference League semi-finalists rebounding stronger if Kerkez does leave during the summer transfer window.

When he took over for Owen Wijndal at AZ, the former AC Milan youth had huge shoes to fill. Some consider him to be more than just a replacement for Wijndal, with his all-action attacking style drawing comparisons to the legendary Roberto Carlos.

A price of around £17 million is said to be required to persuade AZ to sell. Sebastijan Kerkez, Kerkez’s father, says that conversations have already taken place with Portuguese giants Benfica.

He believes that the English Premier League is perfect for the 19-year-old Hungary international, but talkSPORT reports that AFC Bournemouth, Leicester City, and Leeds United are among his many admirers.

“I am willing to speak with anyone, but we are very happy here in Alkmaar.” “My son is also doing well,” Kerkez’s father tells M1.

“We’re now talking to everyone. (However,) we are not in a hurry. His position is in high demand, therefore he has a few suitors from England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and even Germany and France.

“Everyone cares about money except us. We live comfortably here and have everything we require. Money is not a factor to switch teams right now. The big bucks will arrive eventually.

“I prefer England, and Milos prefers Spain.” I believe he is a difficult player, and England would be a terrific fit for him in that regard. But he prefers Spain. We will see.”

This season, Kerkez has five goals and eight assists from fullback. However, after the Foxes spent big to bring Victor Kristiansen to the King Power Stadium, Leeds may now be a more likely destination than Leicester.

Both clubs, though, would have to avoid relegation if they are to have a chance of reaching AZ’s £17 million asking price.

“We are not talking about (signing) a contract with anyone yet,” adds Sebastijan Kerkez. “Benfica would be fantastic for him.” I spoke with them, but I also heard from ten other teams.

“I will say it again; we are very happy here.”
