Gary Lineker summed up the thoughts of all associated with Leicester City as he analysed the Foxes’ 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Match of the Day – not pretty, but who cares? Leicester had Brighton loanee Facundo Buonanotte to thank after his excellent first-half goal sealed the club’s first Premier League win of the season.

Indeed it’s the first victory claimed by any of the three top flight sides who have all made returns to the division this season, with Ipswich and Southampton yet to post a win between them.

While Bournemouth might’ve left the King Power Stadium feeling a little unfortunate they didn’t take anything home with them, that was of no concern to City, who can recuperate in this international break knowing they’ve tasted a first success.

“Well it wasn’t pretty, but I don’t care,” Lineker surmised. “Bournemouth probably deserved something for their second half performance, but I don’t care! Leicester needed that. I think the highlight of the game was the goal from Buonanotte, which has made it a good night.”

Lineker and pundit Alan Shearer agreed that Buonanotte, who has two goals and two assists already this season having also struck earlier in the campaign at home to Aston Villa, has made a very impressive impact having moved on loan from Brighton while chasing more regular first-team football.

“Great win for Leicester,” Shearer added. “They had to work hard, there were a few nervy moments, but it was a great goal. The finish is brilliant, the power behind it, keeper has no chance. That’s two goals and two assists for Buonanotte this season. He’s only 19, he’s got something.”

Lineker agreed: “He’s got a lot of talent, really enjoy watching him play. The first promoted club to win a game, 21 matches between them.”
