Here we take a look at five Ipswich Town players who are likely to leave this summer having already played their last game for the club.
Ipswich Town have been on the rise under manager Kieran McKenna since his appointment in December 2021.
The 37-year-old took over an Ipswich side that was struggling to return to the Championship despite spending big compared to their League One rivals.
In his first full season, McKenna led Ipswich to promotion back to the second tier, finishing in second place behind Plymouth Argyle.
The return to the Championship has been remarkable – fighting it out for back-to-back promotion amongst teams who were related from the Premier League last season.
It’s set to be another busy summer at Portman Road, both in terms of incoming and outgoings, and it’s the latter that we’re focussed on today.
Here we take a look at five Ipswich players who have likely played their final game for the Suffolk club ahead of a potential departure this summer.
5 players that have likely played their last match for Ipswich | |||
---|---|---|---|
Player | Date joined | Arrived from | Contract expiry |
Sone Aluko | 2021 | Reading | 2024 |
Kayden Jackson | 2018 | Accrington | 2024 |
Panutche Camara | 2022 | Plymouth | 2024 |
Dom Ball | 2022 | QPR | 2024 |
Janoi Donacien | 2019 | Accrington | 2024 |
1Sone Aluko
Sone Aluko’s three-year stay at Ipswich is likely to end this summer.
He joined in the summer of 2021 after spending four terrible years with Reading and the former Premier League winger has provided the side with great experience, without proving particularly influential under McKenna.
The Nigerian has seen himself be limited to minutes in cup competitions primarily, so is clearly no longer needed.
2Kayden Jackson
Kayden Jackson’s contract is up this summer and though he’s been a useful asset for Town, it feels like the right time for him to move on.
He’s been a bit-part player this season and with the likes of George Hirst and Ali Al-Hamadi ahead of him, opportunities are set to be few and far between if he were to extend his stay.
Joining from Accrington Stanley in 2018 for £1 million, Jackson has made nearly 200 appearances in his six-year stay, proving himself to be a handful for defenders to deal with.
3Panutche Camara
Panutche Camara joined the club in the summer of 2022, but injuries have massively hampered his two-year stay at Portman Road.
The defensive midfielder joined from Plymouth but was limited to just four appearances across all competitions last season, before being loaned out to Charlton Athletic this campaign.
It has been a similar story this season though for Camara, whose impact at The Valley has been restricted due to injury. With his contract up in the summer, a departure is likely for a player who only made one league appearance for them.
4Dominic Ball
A similar story to Camara, Dominic Ball is a defensive midfielder who was also signed two years ago but has had injuries hamper his time at the club.
He suffered a ruptured meniscus in November 2022 which kept him out for the majority of last season, and whilst he has featured occasionally in the Championship this season, the majority have been off the bench.
Ball’s contract is up and it feels like he will move on.
5Janoi Donacien
Janoi Donacien is another out of contract and the writing does seem to be on the wall for him, but the Saint Lucia international has been a brilliant servant.
He joined the club permanently in 2019 following a loan move from Accrington and has gone on to make over 100 appearances, playing his part in the promotion-winning side last season too.
