Jannik Vestergaard injury update as well as new Leicester City casualty ahead of must-win fixture

Steve Cooper has provided an update on the latest injury news at Leicester City concerning the likes of Jannik Vestergaard and Facundo Buonanotte.

The Foxes are still in search of their first Premier League win of the season and face Bournemouth this weekend in a huge game for the East Midlanders.

The defeat away to Arsenal put Leicester into the record books for the wrong reasons as they go into the seventh game week yet to earn their first three points of the 2024/25 campaign.

Jannik Vestergaard

Vestergaard hasn’t featured for the Foxes since the 2-1 defeat against Fulham in August and has not been included in any of the last three matchday squads after Cooper revealed he had been nursing an ankle injury.

The Denmark international was a crucial part of Enzo Maresca’s Championship-winning campaign and some fans have been calling for him to return to the starting XI.

Asked if he would be fit enough to return for Saturday’s game at the King Power Stadium, Cooper confirmed that the centre-back had been back in training, but wouldn’t say if he was in contention to feature.

He said: “Jannik started training fully today. Some players have had kicks, and they’ve not trained yet.”

The Leicester boss didn’t state who they were.

Facundo Buonanotte

After revealing in September that he had been for a scan, Cooper opted to throw Buonanotte in from the start for the Arsenal defeat.

Instead of playing him in the number 10 role, where the Brighton & Hove Albion loanee has featured most, Cooper instead started him off the right-hand side to give him the license to cut inside.

The 19-year-old took the free-kick that resulted in the first of James Justin’s two goals in north London.

Pictures shared of the Foxes training throughout the week have included Buonanotte and it seems that he will once again be in contention to start.

Hamza Choudhury

One player who has been added to the injury list is Hamza Choudhury.

Despite being nothing more than a bit-part player, Cooper revealed that Choudhury had dislocated his shoulder and is likely to be out for a “little while”.

On the other hand, no timeline has been set for the returns of Patson Daka and Jakub Stolarczyk.
