Despite previous interest from Newcastle United, journalist Craig Hope believes James Maddison will join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Since last summer, Maddison has been linked with a move away from Leicester City, with Newcastle making two bids for the attacking midfielder, both of which were rejected due to falling short of Leicester’s valuation of £60 million.
Despite Leicester’s disappointing season, Maddison has remained an impressive player, with nine Premier League goals and six assists. In 195 appearances for Leicester in all competitions, he has 54 goals and 38 assists.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is determined to sign the midfielder regardless of the club’s next manager.
Meanwhile, The Telegraph reports that Tottenham are the frontrunners in the race to sign Maddison. According to the report, Spurs will have to pay £50 million for the player and are currently the front-runners to secure his services.
And now, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Craig Hope confirmed that Maddison will join Tottenham, saying, “From what I’m hearing, he’ll be going to Spurs.”
“I don’t expect James Maddison to go to Newcastle now, the noises I’m hearing, he will be going to Spurs.”
Tottenham has been without an attacking midfielder this season, and signing Maddison would solve that problem immediately.
He could also form an excellent partnership with England teammate Harry Kane, as evidenced by his performance against Ukraine. However, this is based on Kane’s decision to remain at Tottenham.
With the striker’s contract expiring next summer, he could leave the club at the end of the season unless Levy can persuade him to stay.
