Leicester City are working to make their fifth summer signing as the 2024/25 Premier League season approaches.
The Foxes are set to face a tough battle to maintain their place in the English top flight following their promotion from the Championship.
Steve Cooper will be in the dugout at the King Power Stadium when the league season gets underway next week after he replaced promotion-winning Enzo Meresca.
So far, Leicester City have struggled to strengthen their squad too much in the first few months of the transfer window.
Michael Golding, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Abdul Fatawu, and Caleb Okoli have all joined the club but it is clear further additions will be needed.
Leicester want to strengthen in three positions before deadline day. A new striker, a central midfielder, and a number 10 are all understood to be priorities for the manager.
But Cooper and co. have had a hard time getting new players in over the last few weeks.
Leicester City make former Premier League player top transfer target
The Midlands outfit have turned to the Premier League to try and strengthen their squad this summer.
Chelsea centre-forward David Fofana has been linked to Leicester, with the Foxes understood to be leading the race to secure a loan deal for the Ivorian.
Elsewhere, Cooper was not so lucky with an Arsenal target as Leicester have been priced out of a Reiss Nelson transfer.
Now, a former Premier League star is been tipped to make a move back to England via Leicester.
As per Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, ex-Tottenham Hotspur forward Steven Bergwijn is now Cooper’s number one priority target in the current window.
Leicester are said to be ready to make an official offer to Ajax for the Dutchman, who is valued at around £17m.
MLS outfit Atlanta United are also interested in the player, recently seeing an offer of around £13m knocked back.
