Leicester City have learned the stance of one candidate to replace Enzo Maresca, the club must now act fast.
Leicester City gained promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship in 2023/24 however, their summer has not started as desired.
Instead of planning for the season ahead, the Foxes are scoping a new manager, as Enzo Maresca has been unveiled as the new Chelsea boss.
There have been several possible candidates for the job mentioned, with one successor now making his stance very clear.
Leicester City learn Steve Cooper stance amid managerial links
Former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has been linked with the Leicester job, with The Sun now reporting the Welshman’s stance on his future.
It’s reported that the 44-year-old ‘has indicated’ that he ‘would accept’ an offer from Leicester if he was offered the role.
The Sun claim that the board consider Cooper a strong candidate based on his ‘attractive brand’ of football and his Premier League experience as Leicester aim to stay up.
It’s added that the Foxes would hand the former Forest manager a budget to bolster the current squad, with all signs pointing at a possible return to the Midlands for Cooper.
Leicester must now act fast to hire Cooper
On the No Tippy Tippy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce called Cooper’s work at Forest ‘incredible’, despite being sacked by the Reds in December 2023.
It was a difficult decision for Forest to make considering the achievements that the club recorded during Cooper’s reign, as the Welshman ensured promotion and implemented an attractive style of play.
While the 44-year-old’s start to 2023/24 was dismal at the City Ground, Leicester must look beyond his recent shortfalls in the Midlands, when considering the environment he was working with.
Forest had an influx of players arrive and depart, seeing Cooper ensure survival against the odds in 2022/23, impressing at times with exciting performances.
The Foxes will still be mourning the departure of Maresca after just a year in charge although, a replacement should be hired fast to get to work promptly.
Cooper would be the ideal candidate at present, with the options thin when it comes to hiring a figure with Premier League experience.
Leicester learned Graham Potter’s stance as the former Chelsea boss eyes the England job, ruling out another option for the board to consider.
While Maresca’s stamp on the squad will be difficult to replace, Cooper’s tactical adaptability could be a strength that Leicester should cling to, as the manager showed his flexibility at Forest.
Added to that, the Welshman has proven that he is capable of surviving a Premier League relegation battle, a reality that could face Leicester after losing their manager ahead of the return to the top flight.
