A number of Leicester City stars attracted interest during the 2024 summer transfer window.
Leicester City fans want to re-sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after the midfielder has struggled for any sort of regular football following his move to Chelsea earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goal for Sevilla last week after leaving the King Power Stadium on a free transfer over the summer.
The other notable exit from the Midlands in the summer was, of course, manager Enzo Maresca being poached by Chelsea.
But there were a couple of Leicester players who, while they garnered transfer interest, stayed put for the time being.
Midfielder Wilfred Ndid was wanted by Everton but he instead signed a new contract with the Foxes.
Elsewhere, another central midfielder, Boubakary Soumare, was wanted by several clubs over the summer.
Lyon blow will help Leicester City keep Boubakary Soumare
Spanish outfit Sevilla wanted to sign Soumare in the last window but they could not get a deal over the line.
They were not the only European team interested in the 25-year-old, however, with journalist Sacha Tavolieri reporting Olympique Lyon were ‘attentive’ to the player in late August.
While Soumare stayed put, Leicester may have been fearful that Lyon could come back in for him in January or next summer.
However, that now looks very unlikely to happen after a fresh update on the French club’s financial situation.
Journalist Paul Brown covered a report that states John Textor, who is the owner of Lyon via Eagle Football Holdings, has announced ‘urgent financial measures’ for the club after a €25m loss.
It is added that ‘Lyon’s financial debt reached €505m’ and money will now be required from equity contributions and player sales.
This, of course, all but confirms that Lyon are now very, very unlikely to try and make another move for Soumare in the near future.
Leicester City fans send clear Boubakary Soumare message
Soumare has been in and out of the Leicester team since Steve Cooper took over as manager.
However, he was solid in the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester United and impressed with a 19-minute cameo off the bench against Ipswich Town.
After that game, Leicester fans want Soumare to start vs Man Utd when the two sides meet once more on Sunday.
The midfielder has not always been appreciated by fans in England but Leicester are finally starting to see the best of him and are no doubt glad Lyon did not snap him up over the summer.
