The latest Leicester City transfer news as summer recruitment appears to be unaffected by the expected loss of Enzo Maresca
It looks to be full steam ahead with Leicester City’s summer recruitment process, despite the expected loss of manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.
The man who guided the Foxes back to the Premier League at the first attempt is on the brink of quitting to take up the managerial reigns at Stamford Bridge.
But that has not stopped the Leicester hierarchy planning for life back in the top-flight, with the club subject to fresh links with AS Roma’s former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham.
According to Leggo.it, City are interested in bringing the the 26-year-old frontman back to the Premier League. He has enjoyed success over three seasons in the Italian capital, but that was largely under former boss Jose Mourinho. He has fallen out of favour with new coach Daniele De Rossi, so has been transfer listed for €28 million (£23.8m).
Leicestershire Live understands Maresca’s departure will have minimal impact on any player incomings this summer – whether that be Abraham or anyone else linked. The manager was always involved in the process during his year at the club, though was only there to make recommendations without total control. Martyn Glover, the club’s head of recruitment, and the scouting team remain the key players in the signing of players.
The biggest factor on deals this summer would appear to be City’s potential issues with player spending rules that is likely to see them hit with a points penalty before the new season begins and potentially having to sell some of their star assets to balance the books.
