Soumare has established himself as a regular in the heart of the Sevilla team this season and could be a candidate to leave this summer as City look to make a quick buck
Loaned-out midfielder Boubakary Soumare is making waves at Sevilla… and Stephy Mavididi appears to want him back at Leicester City.
Soumare has established himself as a regular at the heart of the Sevilla side this season and has played every minute of their last nine matches. His form has led to plenty of talk over his future in the south of Spain, with but while Sevilla are said to be keen to sign him, there are doubts over whether they can afford him.
It seems winger Mavididi may be against that idea. Commenting on an Instagram post made by Soumare, Mavididi wrote in French: “Come back to us please.”
City supporters took that to be a plea for the midfielder to return to the club, with many keen on the idea. After Enzo Maresca successfully turned Wilfred Ndidi into an attacking midfielder, there are a number of supporters who would like to see him work with Soumare too.
The manager only had a couple of months with the Frenchman over the summer, and he only featured in one pre-season game, the behind-closed-doors defeat to Peterborough. A popular member of the squad, Soumare looks to have hit it off with Mavididi, with the duo also playing against each other in France, when the midfielder was at Lille, and the winger was representing Dijon and Montpellier.
However, Soumare looks to be a strong candidate to be sold by City this summer. The club need to make money before the end of June to satisfy Profit and Sustainability regulations, and interest from Sevilla could allow City to cash in quickly on the 25-year-old. However, the most recent noises out of Spain are that a return to City is most likely because of the potential cost.
For now, Soumare’s own focus will be on ensuring Sevilla stay in La Liga. With nine games to go, Sevilla are six points and two places outside the relegation zone.
