Leicester City man send strong message to promotion rivals after hot match

Catch up on tonight’s Leeds United headlines ahead of tonight’s Championship clash against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium

Here are tonight’s evening Leeds United headlines on Wednesday, October 25.

Leicester City’s blistering start to the campaign shows no signs of slowing down after the Foxes registered a 12th win from 13 matches so far this season after they saw off Sunderland at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. The 1-0 victory means that Enzo Maresca’s side have a 14-point buffer to third-placed Leeds United ahead of the Whites’ trip to Stoke City.

But the Foxes had to work for this latest win, overcoming a positive start by the Black Cats who refused to roll over against the league leaders. And the somewhat gritty win was music to Foxes midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was pleased to see his side forced to dig deep.

“Full credit to them, they came and they gave us a good game,” Dewsbury-Hall told Sky Sports. “We weren’t underestimating them before the game, we knew that they’re aggressive, they like to press. They came with a good game plan.

“But you know what, they’re the sort of wins in football that mean the most. The ones that your game plan might not have worked, but you’ve ground out a win.

“Look, we’re not stupid enough to think we’re going to pop teams off the park every week. We’re going to have games like that where we’re going to have to show our mentality, our resilience. I’m so proud of the lads today because I felt like we did that the whole game.”

Leeds United will be hoping to put the brakes on the Foxes record-setting campaign when they visit the King Power Stadium on Friday, November 3, in what looks set to be one of the biggest matches of the season so far.

Premier League ‘requests Everton points deduction’ as Leeds United watch on

Everton are reportedly facing a 12-point deduction after the Premier League recommended an unprecedented punishment amid the club’s ongoing case concerning their alleged break of Financial Fair Play rules. The Telegraph claim that the Premier League have recommended docking the Toffees up to 12 points to the independent commission that is currently hearing the case.

Everton recorded financial losses of more than £300million over a three-year period, well over the £105million limit that the Premier League has set. The club strongly deny breaching Premier League rules, as they ‘robustly defend’ their position and argue that exemptions, including leeways given following the Covid pandemic, have meant that they have remained compliant with all of the competition’s rules.

The Premier League referred Everton to the independent commission in March, with other potential sanctions outlined in the report including a fine and/or transfer embargo. Should the Toffees be docked 12 points then they would move to the foot of the Premier League table on minus-five points.
