To stay within the financial rules, City may have to sell players before the end of June, meaning Enzo Maresca could lose some of his star names even in the event of promotion
The EFL have made clear that they expect Leicester City to breach Profitability and Sustainability rules for the three-year cycle ending this June, and have placed them under a transfer embargo.
City have argued that is premature, as there are still three months remaining in that cycle. But that means there is work to be done and cash to be raised. The most effective way of doing that is selling players.
They will have to act quickly once the season ends and the transfer window opens. The deals have to be done before June 30 otherwise they won’t go in this campaign’s set of accounts. But what they do have are plenty of players who could be worth a few quid and who may save the club from further punishment. Here’s a look at the players who could be sold.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Wout Faes
Patson Daka
James Justin
Ben Nelson
Harry Souttar
Victor Kristiansen
Boubakary Soumare
Daniel Iversen
The goalkeeper is surplus to requirements at City now Mads Hermansen and Jakub Stolarczyk are Maresca’s first-choice pair, and that allowed him to move on loan to Stoke in January. He’s showing off his very good shot-stopping ability with the Potters, and that could lead a Championship side to come in for him on a permanent deal in the summer.
