Leicester City rush smartly to collapse Jesse Marsch move ahead of Leeds United trip

Leicester City have chosen Dean Smith as manager on a season-long contract, despite speculations tying former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch to the position.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s report, Marsch was set to take the post, but it was confirmed yesterday that it had fallen through.

Brendan Rodgers was fired last week after four years as manager, and the Foxes have moved rapidly to find a replacement.

Leicester have made a decision, with out-of-work manager Dean Smith taking over for the balance of the season.

Leicester disclosed in a club statement that the former Norwich City, Aston Villa, and Brentford manager has taken over as manager on a short-term basis, with the Foxes currently 19th in the Premier League table. “Leicester City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean Smith as the Club’s First Team Manager until the end of the 2022/23 season,” the statement added.

He has been unemployed since being fired from Norwich on December 27th. Marsch, on the other hand, has been out of work since February 6th, with Javi Gracia taking his place at Elland Road.

Smith is most likely a better choice than Marsch. In terms of tactical setup, he is at least a safer option.

Leicester’s gung-ho attitude may have suited them, but it could also have been their undoing. It will be interesting to see how this latest alteration affects the situation at the bottom of the league.

Leeds are only a few points ahead of Leicester, but their squad is particularly skilled in attacking areas, and if Smith can get the best out of them, Leeds and others at the bottom will be in big trouble.

Leicester will play Leeds at Elland Road soon, giving Smith time to implement new ideas in the meantime.
