Leicester City star man Patson Daka makes final club decision as Brentford eye move

Brentford have reportedly identified Leicester City forward Patson Daka as a potential replacement for Ivan Toney.

The Bees are currently without the services of their star forward, who is serving an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Association’s betting regulations.

Although Toney was permitted to return to first-team training last weekend, he will not be allowed to play competitive football until January 16.

With Toney’s ban set to expire in the middle of the January transfer window, there is belief that the 27-year-old will attract offers.

Chelsea and Arsenal are among those showing an interest, and the pair are allegedly willing to offer players in a part-exchange deal.

While Brentford will be keen to retain Toney’s services, they are drawing up contingency plans in case the striker does leave Thomas Frank’s side in January.

According to Football Transfers, Brentford have identified Leicester’s Daka as a possible replacement for Toney.

After scoring 68 goals in 125 appearances for RB Salzburg, Daka completed a move to the Foxes in the summer of 2021.

The 24-year-old has been unable to replicate the form he showed in Austria, having registered 15 goals in 75 games for the Foxes.

Daka’s only appearance of the current campaign took place on Wednesday when he came off the bench for the final 26 minutes of Leicester’s EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Should Brentford decide to pursue a move for Daka, they could face competition from fellow Premier League club Bournemouth.

The Cherries remain admirers of the Zambia international after seeing a proposed loan move fail to materialise in the summer.

Italian giants AC Milan have been linked with the forward, while there is also understood to be interest from the Saudi Pro League.

In addition to Daka, a recent report claimed that Brentford are considering Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind, AZ Alkmaar’s Vangelis Pavlidis and Santos’s Marcos Leonardo as potential options.
