Leicester City are looking to close in on an attacking-midfielder to replace Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The Foxes’ transfer window has been summed up by their difficulties in replacing star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who departed the club to join back up with Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.
Leicester City have targeted both attacking-midfielders and wingers this summer, with high-profile names including Wilfried Zaha, Matias Soule, Yaser Asprilla and Adam Hlozek all targeted, but all targets have either been poached from elsewhere or the Foxes have run into difficulties in negotiations.
Progress has been made in other positions, including the signing of Jordan Ayew on a permanent deal from Crystal Palace, however midfield additions still remain to be a top priority for Steve Cooper’s side, who clearly have a void yet to be filled, despite their best efforts to bring the likes of Matt O’Riley into the side from Celtic.
Despite recent difficulties, it seems that Leicester City have finally broken through into finding an attacking-midfielder this summer, and it certainly seems to be quite a coup for Cooper.
Leicester City target Bilal El Khannouss agrees contract
Leicester City have made significant progress in signing a new, young midfielder this summer, with 20-year-old Genk star Bilal El Khannouss having reportedly ‘agreed on a four-year deal’ at the King Power, per Sacha Tavolieri on X.
There is set to be a bid placed by Leicester City in the region of £15-20m, and the Foxes look set to be the favourites to sign the youngster after several clubs interested ‘were slowed down’ as a result of ‘the high demands’ from El Khannouss’ parent club.
The midfielder sent ripples around Europe last season as a result of his talents, with him even being compared to Tottenham and Real Madrid legend Luka Modric, per HotspurHQ.
Bilal El Khannouss will prove to be a brilliant piece of business
On the surface, El Khannouss will certainly provide a threat for Leicester City this season and will look to be a key part of the squad, despite being just 20-years-old.
The Moroccan international managed nine goal contributions in 27 games in the 2023/24 campaign, and it would be likely to see him continue that form for the Foxes, despite not having Premier League experience.
The deal will also definitely benefit Leicester City, no matter the outcome of the 2024/25 campaign. It would be foolish to suggest that the Foxes weren’t set to be involved in a relegation battle this season, but the silver lining to the potential of dropping down the leagues, is the almost-certain prospect of El Khannouss demanding a large fee after a season in the top flight.
A deal between £15-20m to attain his services is a great deal for Cooper’s side, and one that could easily double at the very minimum if he is given the game time he needs this season.
