Leicester have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign an ‘exciting’ £25m-rated Champions League midfielder, according to a recent report.
The Foxes are currently managerless following Enzo Maresca’s departure to Chelsea earlier this month, though, they are still being linked to a number of players ahead of their Premier League return.
It seems the new man in the dugout will be either Graham Potter or Carlos Coberan, with the club hoping to appoint their new boss before pre-season gets underway.
Whilst that process unfolds, head of recruitment Martyn Glover has been hard at work identifying targets behind the scenes and it has just emerged that Leicester have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign a very highly-rated midfielder.
Leicester City join Aston Villa in race to sign Matteo Guendouzi
According to Il Messaggero, via The Standard, Premier League new boys Leicester City are showing an interest in Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
The former Arsenal man has been made available this summer by the Serie A outfit, who are hoping to receive £25m for his signature.
Aston Villa and Newcastle have also been tracking the ‘exciting’ number eight, providing stiff competition for the East Midlanders.
Villa are expected to be the favourites as Unai Emery already has a relationship with Guendouzi, having signed him for Arsenal.
Leicester City likely can’t spend until July
Leicester will miss out on a number of targets as they likely can’t spend any money until the end of the financial year later this month.
They are on the edge of breaching Profit and Sustainability regulations, so they must remain shrewd in their expenditure.
As such, it seems very doubtful that they’d outlay £25m on Guendouzi’s signature unless he was still available in July.
