Stephy Mavididi is on the verge of joining Leicester City from Montpellier. According to Fabrizio Romano, a cost has been agreed upon and a medical appointment has been planned.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Leicester City are closing in on Montpellier attacker Stephy Mavididi for €7.5 million (£6.4 million).
Leicester have been “plotting” a move for Mavididi for some time, with Football Insider first reporting their interest.
In a subsequent Twitter update, Romano reiterated the Foxes’ interest in the wide player, as well as credited Lille and Club Brugge with interest in the winger.
Leicester have yet to add to their attacking options this summer, despite bringing in a slew of new faces under their new head coach Enzo Maresca.
So far in the window, the Foxes have completed four signings: Conor Coady from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur, Mads Hermansen from Brndby, and Callum Doyle on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.
Leicester have finances to work with after Harvey Barnes joined Newcastle United for roughly £38 million this week and James Maddison joined Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the window for around £40 million.
The 25-year-old could be Barnes’ replacement on the left-wing and may be a familiar name to some EFL fans, having spent the early stages of his career at Arsenal; but was loaned out to Charlton Athletic and Preston North End prior to leaving the Emirates permanently.
Mavididi can play as a striker in a front two or as a left winger and has 26 goals and six assists in Ligue 1 for Montpellier and Dijon FCO.
Leicester are in desperate need of reinforcements across the field, but notably in their forward line after losing Barnes and Maddison. Mavididi could be the next player through the door, but the futures of the other players currently at the club are unknown.
Wilfried Ndidi, Hamza Choudhury, Timothy Castagne, Kelechi Iheanacho, Boubakary Soumare, Ricardo Pereira, and more might yet leave Leicester before the transfer window closes.
