Negotiations on as Leicester City turn all attentions to sign fabulous academy star graduate

Tottenham academy graduate Oliver Skipp attracting interest from newly-promoted Leicester City

According to a report from Football Insider, “fabulous” Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has emerged as a target for newly promoted Leicester City.

Leicester City won the Championship title last season and achieved promotion at the first time of asking under Enzo Maresca, who is now the head coach of Chelsea. The Foxes have replaced Maresca with Steve Cooper as the new boss ahead of their return to the top flight.

Having lost star midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea last month, Steve Cooper and Co. are planning to replace him with Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp. Since making his first-team debut back in 2018, Skipp has failed to establish himself as a regular at Tottenham. He has managed only 77 Premier League appearances across five seasons at the club.

Despite spending much of last season on the substitutes bench, the former England youth international played 24 times for Ange Postecoglou’s side and proved himself as an important squad option. However, the aforementioned report states that Spurs could allow Skipp to leave this summer if they receive an important bid.

The 23-year-old has a contract until 2027 (Transfermarkt) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which puts our club in a strong negotiating position. Apart from Leicester City, Championship outfit Leeds United have also shown an interest in the Spurs academy graduate.

Spurs have already bolstered their midfield ranks with the additions of young guns Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall from Leeds United and Djurgarden, respectively. Gray and Bergvall’s arrivals mean Ange Postecoglou now has a well-stocked midfield unit, which also features Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Pape Matar Sarr, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Giovani Lo Celso and of course, Skipp.

Given the amount of competition within the squad, it looks unlikely to see Skipp enjoy regular football for Spurs next season. The club is open to listen to offers for Hojbjerg and Lo Celso and use the funds from their sales to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher—one of Postecoglou’s top summer targets.
