Chelsea’s injury problems ahead of the trip to Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime appear to be growing following further news regarding Romeo Lavia.

The luckless midfielder admitted he suffered a setback in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in his final game before the international break. He was taken off after 68 minutes and admitted: “I received a little blow. At the moment, we are testing to see if it is okay, but it should be fine, I think.”

That ‘little blow’ was clearly big enough to keep him out of the 1-0 loss to Italy and Sunday’s defeat to Israel, by the same scoreline. Before that game Red Devils’ boss Domenico Tedesco revealed: “I think Romeo Lavia has a hamstring problem. It was bothering him this morning and we didn’t want to risk him.” Lavia will return to Chelsea later this week with the clock ticking on the trip to the King Power Stadium under Enzo Maresca.

The 20-year-old missed four games at the start of this season with a hamstring problem and last term, his debut campaign in a Chelsea shirt, saw the Belgium international play just once. This season, though, he has already made seven appearances in all competitions and has recently climbed above Enzo Fernandez in the pecking order in the Premier League.

Both Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill pulled out of the England camp, Malo Gusto withdrew from the French Under-21 squad, while Wesley Fofana pulled out of Les Bleus’ senior set-up. Omari Kellyman is out until December.
