Sporting Lisbon hold £15m transfer talks with Leicester City to sign speed winger

Latest Leicester City news as Sporting Lisbon are anticipating future deal for winger Abdul Fatawu

Sporting Lisbon are “rubbing their hands together” after Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu scored his first goal for the club.

Fatawu is on loan at City from the Portuguese club, the 19-year-old arriving on a temporary deal until the end of the season. He has already shown his promise in a Leicester shirt and has plenty of room to improve and grow under Enzo Maresca.

Leicester will trigger a €17 million (£14.8m) clause to buy if they are promoted to the Premier League, according to Portuguese outlet Record. They claim that aspect of the loan deal, combined with Fatawu’s good start to life in England, has Sporting “rubbing their hands together”

Fatawu scored his first goal for the club last time out against Swansea, and will be hoping for more to come. Speaking about his wingers after that game, City head coach Maresca said: “Especially first half, Stephy was just in front of the bench, so we realise that what we did in the international break is going to improve us.

“Abdul was on the other side and then in the second half, he was on our side, but he was forward. They are small details.

“I’m happy for both of them, especially for Stephy. As we said (last Friday), if he understands the level he needs to play, like today, every game, it’s a step forward for him.”
