Steve Cooper list out Three budget signings that could make at Leicester City Premier League tittle race hot

Leicester City are unlikely to be able to spend masses of money ready for their Premier League return so will have to be astute in the transfer market.

Newly-appointed manager Steve Cooper will be assessing the market this summer to see where he can improve Leicester City ready to battle for Premier League survival.

With Leicester currently amid an ongoing an appeal for breaching Premier League spending rules and in danger of another breach prior to the PSR deadline on June 30th they may need to make sales despite promotion.

This could see Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sold to balance the books in a deal that would be incredibly frustrating for the fanbase.

Even if the 25-year-old is sold Leicester will not have a lot of money to spend this summer, so here are three budget players they could target to help with their PSR woes.

Leicester City should make move for Danny Ings

The first player Leicester should consider is an experienced top flight goalscorer in Danny Ings.

With Jamie Vardy now 37 and Patson Daka yet to prove he can be prolific at Premier League level, at least one more option is required up front and Ings could be just that.

The West Ham United striker is likely to be available for a cheap fee too, with the Hammers keen to offload the 31-year-old.

The former Liverpool striker has scored just 16 goals since leaving Southampton in 2021 but showed at the Saints that he can score goals for a team struggling near the bottom of the table as he scored 22 in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.

Recent reports have suggested that Southampton themselves would be willing to play up to £6 million to set up a return for Ings so Leicester could offer a similar figure.

Goals can be hard to come by in the top flight but in Ings Leicester could sign a player proven to know where the net is in a cut-price deal.

Leicester could test Manchester United resolve for Willy Kambwala

A player on the other end of the spectrum of Premier League experience is Manchester United’s 19-year-old defender Willy Kambwala.

Kambwala has made just eight appearances in England’s top flight but has impressed when called upon by Erik ten Hag.

The French centre-back was particularly impressive as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Liverpool in April, with Rio Ferdinand singling him out for praise after the game.

Speaking on his FIVE podcast, Ferdinand said: “Some good performances in there. Harry Maguire and Willy at centre-half, two brilliant performances.”

“But Willy, for a young centre-back in a game with a real fiery atmosphere – loads riding on the game as well after the way we played against Chelsea – for him to come in and put in a performance like that, I thought he was magnificent.

“What I liked about him he was he was making the tackle, getting up, getting the crowd involved, the emotion. You could see he understood, I really liked [it].”

United are expected to sign defensive reinforcements this summer after being caught short on numerous occasions last season which could see Kambwala fall down the pecking order.

With that in mind, Leicester could be wise to make a move for the defender who is only going to get better and should not command a large fee.

Jeremy Sarmiento could be an option for Leicester

The third and final budget signing Leicester should be considering is Brighton’s Jeremy Sarmiento.

The Ecuador international started last season on loan at West Brom before being loaned to fellow promoted side Ipswich Town in January.

It was for Kieran McKenna’s side that he was more impressive, scoring four and assisting two in 22 games in all competitions.

A tricky winger with an eye for goal, Sarmiento would provide good competition for Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu and Brighton may be keen to make a sale on a player unlikely to have a future at the club.
